Kipoi School ProjectTop of Page

Summary:

The Kipoi Elementary School is in the province of Equateur, in the territory of Bandaka II.  The school is serving the districts of basoko, icongowasa, in the capital of Mbandaka. Mbandaka is the capital of the Congolese province of Equator. It has a population of 772900 peoples. Although the province is not currently in war, but in the past, it was the field of battle between the Congolese government and the rebellion of MLC and the Kipoi Elementary School served as shelters to armed groups, its furniture, roofs and other equipments used as firewood by combatants. Those years of rebellion have totally destroyed all the social and economical tissues of the province. Today the province of the equator is considered to be the poorest province of Congo; with high rate of crime (mainly rape) and unemployment, combine with the lowest educational level in the country. Mbandaka today looks more like a village than a town, its roads are all destroyed; clean drinking water and electricity are unavailable to most of the population. The population barely survives with artisanal fishing and farming.

Many students are forced to learn sitting on the floor because of a lack of chairs and desks. Hence in line with this topic CGA decides to help the heads of schools to establish education plans for the needs and purchase of equipment for such establishments.

However, it is important to note that the social realities in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo create obstacles to the financing of such projects. Rural schools in Congo lack every imaginable tool, from the most basic equipment of chairs and desks.
